Pupil Voice

'Pupil Voice' is a new idea being introduced this year.  Mrs Thomas will lead consultation with the children and discuss ideas and findings with the staff and parents.

“The key is that the school’s self-evaluation should be based

on rigorous and honest analysis of adequate evidence which will

include the views of parents and pupils.”

Dfes, 2004

In Term 1, all the children were asked to fill out a basic questionnaire to use as a starting point.  From there, we used a variety of tools to find out the children's perspective on all things 'Filton Hill'.  This included:

  Conversations about teaching and learning
Seeking advice from pupils about new initiatives
Inviting comment about ways of solving problems that are affecting

the teacher’s right to teach and the pupil’s right to learn

Inviting evaluative comment on recent developments in school or

classroom policy and practice

The idea is simple.  If the children feel valued and listened to, the quality of learning experience will grow.

The report for Terms 1 & 2 of pupil voice is now available below.  I have detailed minutes from the meetings with the children - please just ask if you would like copies.  I am keeping a school register to ensure that ALL the children in the school will be involved in meetings.

The report for Terms 3 & 4 is now available below.  The children have been responsible for implementing many changes across the school.  I am continually impressed by their maturity and refreshing way of approaching issues.

The report for Terms 5 & 6 is now available below.

I feel that the first year of 'pupil voice' has been a tremendous success and that the children have been able to express their thoughts and feelings throughout the year.  Ofsted praised 'pupil voice' within the school and even asked if it was causing problems at home - the fact that they are consulted on so many aspects of school life, the inspectors wondered if they were expecting the same at home!

Mr Hornsby has taken over 'Pupil Voice' at Filton Hill!!
